Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins reported that during the early morning of February 10, the sheriff’s department received a call reporting a stabbing and a house fire on Garrett Road North. The Harrisville and Braxton Fire departments along with AMR responded to the fire quickly.

As of February 15, 2020, Simpson County has the two following road closures: Gatesville Rd at Old Pearl Fire Dept and Hopewell Rd. at the Pearl River Bridge. Hopewell Rd. is not at this time flooded on the Simpson County side but is heavily flood on the Copiah County side. There is water over the south lane of Old River Rd.

Ahead of Tropical Storm Barry, and with parts of the state already experiencing severe flooding, the Mississippi State Department of Health (MSDH) advises residents to prepare now for dangerous storm conditions to stay safe and healthy.
Preparing a Disaster Kit
A press released stated on Thursday morning June 6, the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department had an officer involved shooting in the county. The Sheriff’s Department requested that the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations take over the investigation.

Several reports of leaks came to the Magee Board of Aldermen for attention at their recent meeting. The leaks have followed recent borings as a result of new cable being put in Magee for high speed internet.

The City of Magee has opened registration for youth softball and baseball. There will be a $45 registration fee. Baseball will be available for children ages 3-16 and softball from ages 3-19. Children ages 3-12 must register before February 16 for the season to start on time.

A county resident has appealed to the Simpson County Board of Supervisors for relief on a $1,700 garbage bill.
Willie Sherman appeared in front of the Board of Supervisors last week seeking relief on his garbage bill, stating that the county refused to pick up his garbage.
