Overflow Church, with the help of Mississippi Blood Services, hosted a blood drive Sunday February 23 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. The drive was in honor of Rosalind Anderson Bernoudy, who passed away in 2018 after a long battle with sickle cell.



Simpson Academy boys 4A Champs

The Simpson Academy Cougars are the Class AAAA Boys Basketball 2019-2020 Champions. Head Coach James Crain led the Cougars to a 33-6 record this season. The Cougars defeated Hillcrest Christian 61-43 to capture the state championship Saturday night. The team will now be competing for the Overall Championship.


Caughman authors several new Senate bills

We are getting close to the half way mark of the 2020 session of the Mississippi Legislature.   The filing of general bills deadline has passed and committee meetings are in full force.  It is a much busier time for me as I now chair the Business and Financial Institution Committee and I have spent much time going over bills assigned to my comm

Lillie Mae Gibson Lewis

Lillie Mae Gibson Lewis passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, at Magee General Hospital at the age of 93.  She was born on January 12, 1927, to her late parents, Dewey Mahaffey and Ollie Mae (McCory) Mahaffey in Scott County, MS.


Simpson Students visit Capital

– On Tuesday morning, the fourth grade class of Simpson County Academy took a field trip to the Mississippi State Capitol get an up close look of the legislative process in action.  The group met with the Simpson County delegation, Representative Price Wallace and Senator Chris Caughman, while on their tour.

Report from the sixth week of the session

This was the sixth week of the 2020 Legislative Session.  House members had a busy week full of committee meetings and hearings.  The deadline for the introduction of general bills and constitutional amendments is Monday, February 17, so members will remain busy over the next few weeks deciding which drafted bills will make it onto the House fl
