Simpson County Sheriff Paul Mullins joined Perry Sorey and the Dixie National Wagon Train as they traveled through Mendenhall and made camp at D’Lo Water Park last week. Arrest Reports 1-23-2020

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 17 arrests from January 13 to January 20.

Shawn Anthony Puckett of 196 Sawmill Road Braxton MS was arrested on January 14 and charged with possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and introducing contraband.

Mendenhall frontage road

Southern Rock LLC recently completed dirt work for the Mendenhall frontage road. The road will be located between East Street and the intersection of Highway 49 and Highway 13. The project was completed on schedule and paving will begin soon.

 

 

 

 

 

 



Alcohol to be on ballot

Whether Simpson County stays dry on goes wet will now be up to voters in November. 

The Simpson County Board of Supervisors approved placing the initiative on the ballot, which is a matter of protocol, for the General Election to be held November 5.  The county held a special meeting last Friday to approve the measure.


Christmas Tour Sunday, December 1, 2019

The Ollie Mayhall BYW of the First Baptist Church of Magee is hosting a Christmas Tour Sunday, December 1, 2019 from 2-4 PM.  The Raynold and Tiffany Kinslow home, The Russell building including the offices and apartment of Debra and Jonathan Styron, and Hopewell Presbyterian Church are included on the tour.  Tickets are $10 and may be purchase

Nannie Prestwood, 82, of Magee, passed away Thursday, October 10, 2019, at her home in Magee. She was born Saturday, January 9, 1937.

Visitation was held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Magee.


Braxton Neal Stewart

Braxton Neal Stewart, 7, of Brandon, Mississippi, passed away December 3, 2019. He was born March 5, 2012.

Visitation was held on Saturday, December 7, 2019,  at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Mendenhall.


A.C. Lewis

Mr. A. C. Lewis, 80, passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020, at his home in Harrisville following a brief illness.


Roy Dean Cone

Roy Dean Cone, 61, of Mendenhall,  passed away Tuesday, November 19, 2019, at his home in Mendenhall.

Visitation was Thursday, November 21, 2019, at  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Mendenhall.

Funeral services were Friday, November 22, 2019,  at the funeral home. Burial followed at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.


Frances H. Welch

Frances H. Welch, 83, of Mendenhall, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020. She was born Sunday, March 8, 1936.

Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall.


Anthony Q. Dur

Anthony Q. Durr (a.k.a. Tony) was the oldest of five born to Rosie Lee Durr and the late James Hayes on August 25, 1961. He was called home on November 24, 2019. Anthony was a resident of Magee, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his dad.



Darrell Bowen

Darrell Bowen, 70, of, Florence Mississippi, passed away Wednesday October 9, 2019, at his home.  He was born Saturday, April 23, 1949.

Visitation was held on Saturday, October 12, 2019, from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall.


Rayburn Little

Rayburn Little, 82,  passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2019, at his home.  He was born on June 14, 1937, to Dewey Little and Lucille (Thompson) Little.

He was a retired cattle farmer.  He was a member of Siloam Baptist Church.


Simpson Basketball Opens Season

The Lady Cougars and Cougars will open basketball season Thursday, October 31, in the Capital Ortho Tournament at Simpson. The tournament will also be played on Saturday, November 2. Please come out and support the defending AAAA DII girls and boys State Champions.
