Arrest Reports 1-23-2020

The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office reported 17 arrests from January 13 to January 20.

Shawn Anthony Puckett of 196 Sawmill Road Braxton MS was arrested on January 14 and charged with possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia, and introducing contraband.

McCarthy is a columnist for the National Review and has recently published a book, Ball of Collusion: The Plot to Rig an Election and Destroy a Presidency.

Norman Edgar Hicks Jr, (Snooks)84, of Magee, passed from this life Monday at home in Magee. He was born Friday, February 1, 1935.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2020, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at  Colonial Chapel Funeral Home Magee.

School board looks at facility options

The board of the Simpson County School District called two special meetings prior to their regular board meeting on Jan. 9, each  with a specific purpose. One was to discuss the district’s use of ballfields for high school play in Magee.  The second meeting was to discuss the facilities use plan that had been produced by Bailey Consulting.









Schools to give park to Magee

The Simpson County School District may have the final word on the Washington Street Park, which the City of Magee has asked the district to transfer to them. 

A state law requires that if a school property no longer serves the needs of the community its ownership will revert to the school district.

Magee returns to the win column

Not every win is pretty.  Not every win is a blowout.  Sometimes, teams have to do what it takes just to get the W and move on.  After their first loss of the season last week at West Marion, the Trojans returned to the friendly confines of Trojan Field for the 2019 Homecoming game against district foe the Tylertown Chiefs. 


Scam attempted on local woman

A recent increase in scam activity throughout the summer has targeted the elderly. Simpson County resident Mary Gene Padgett reported a recent scam attempt on an older lady. Padgett said the woman received a call from an individual claiming to be her grandson.
