Walker crowned Trojan Queen

2017 Magee High School Homecoming Queen Mia Davis, right, crowned Aalyiah Walker as the new 2018 Homecoming Queen for the MHS.  The Trojans won their battle against the Raleigh Lions 42-18.  Mia is the daughter of Willie and Brittany Davis, and Aalyiah is the daughter of Jerald Walker and Belinda Davis.

Crazy Day set for Oct. 27

Magee will launch its 43rd Crazy Day Celebration on Saturday, October 27.

As in the past local and visiting vendors will be selling their wares up and down Main Avenue offering everything from handmade crafts to local art, trendy fashion and jewelry.  You can always find a bargain on custom crafted furniture and home decor items.



Games boost economy

Magee had a huge crowd last weekend at the softball tournaments hosted at the city’s Sportsplex.

Estimates have the number at 9,000 people visiting the community for the tournament.  It was a big weekend for restaurants, lodging and fast food establishments.  In addition, the sportsplex got its share of the spoils.



Copiah Lincoln expands presence and programs in Simpson County

It was a busy day at Copiah Lincoln Community College’s Simpson County Center last Tuesday when a ground-breaking ceremony was held for new expansions at the college. 

The almost 24,000 square foot expansion comes because of increased student needs at the Simpson County facility on Highway 49 between Magee and Mendenhall.

MBN operation in Magee

An operation was conducted the morning of August 7 at a residence on 11th Avenue NW Magee MS by the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics. The Magee Police Department was involved in a support role. MBN is declining to comment at this time. Updates will be made to this story as more information becomes available.

 

 

 




Beating the summer heat

Beating the heat has been difficult this summer, but Avaree Page, Tinsley Aldridge, and Easton Freeman came up with the perfect solution, an ice cold cup of lemonade. The three sold lemonade and cookies during a softball tournament hosted at the Mendenhall Sportsplex by the fire department.

 

 

 

 

 






Gussie C. Walker

Gussie C. Walker passed away on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at MS Care Center in Raleigh.  She was born on September 2, 1922, to her parents, the late Dewey Cooper and Alice Shoemaker Cooper.

She was a member of Kennedy Springs Baptist Church.
