SCA’s basketball teams played two games last week in the District 3 AAAA District Tournament. The girls opened the tournament against Lamar School and were defeated 58-53 in OT. The boys opened the tournament against East Rankin Academy and won the game by a score of 68-51. The girls played Hartfield Academy in the consolation game and won 76-41. The boys played Hartfield Academy in the championship game and were defeated 63-38.

Lamar 58 Simpson 53 OT-Scoring for Simpson were Morgan Griffith with 23 points, Anna Claire Walker 12, Alissa Brewer 9, TK Catchings 8, and Kristin Busby 1. The loss dropped Simpson’s record to 22-10 on the season.
Simpson 76 Hartfield 41-Scoring for Simpson were Morgan Griffith with 31 points, Alissa Brewer 12, TK Catchings 11, Kristin Busby 8, Anna Claire Walker 6, and Adeline Bond, Mollie Jones, Maddie Moody, and Alexis Sullivan 2 each. The win improved Simpson’s record to 23-10 on the season.
Boys Games - East Rankin Academy
Simpson 68 East Rankin 51-Scoring for Simpson were Kyle Russell with 22 points, Bowen Kelly 14, Thomas Pepper 12, Hunter Cline 6, Joseph Berry and Bryce Caughman 4 each, and Hooks Harvey and Layton Brown 3 each. The win improved Simpson’s record to 18-10 on the season.
Hartfield 63 Simpson 38-Scoring for Simpson were Kyle Russell with 15 points, Thomas Pepper 10, Hooks Harvey 6, Cam Crace, Zach Holbrook, and Bowen Kelly 2 each, and Hunter Cline 1.
The loss dropped Simpson’s record to 18-11 on the season. Simpson will travel to Pillow Academy in Greenwood on Wednesday, February 21, for the State AAAA DII Tournament. The girls will play Washington School at 6:30 p.m. and the boys will play Washington School at 7:45 p.m. With a win, the girls will play the East Rankin/Copiah winner at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, February 23. The consolation game will be Saturday, February 24, at 1 p.m., and the championship game will be at 2:15 p.m. With a win, the boys will play the Magnolia Hts./Lamar School winner Friday, February 23, at 6 p.m. The consolation game will be Saturday, February 24, at 6 p.m., and the championship game is set for 7:15 p.m.
The Cougars and Lady Cougars will need to finish in the top three to advance to next week’s MAIS Overall Tournament at A.E. Wood Coliseum on the campus of Mississippi College.
