When the Municipal General Election was held on June 8, the City of Mendenhall featured one contested race for the office of Alderman of Ward 4 between incumbent Sandra Weeks-Stein and former alderman Arthur Walker Sr.
Ward 4 saw 122 voters participate in the election. The winning candidate was decided within three votes. After the polls closed on June 8, the results showed Sandra Weeks-Stein with 57 votes and Arthur Walker Sr. with 61 votes. Four affidavit ballots were verified and counted on June 9. Three of the votes were accepted and the final voter was notified that they needed to produce photo identification. The voter was given until 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday June 15 to produce identification. Numerically Weeks-Stein needed all four votes in her favor to force a tie, at which point the office would have been decided by a simple coin flip.
Of the three accepted affidavit ballots Weeks-Stein received two votes and Walker Sr. received the third, essentially deciding the election. The unofficial results reflected Weeks-Stein with 59 votes and Walker Sr. with 62. The final unconfirmed affidavit ballot would not have changed the outcome.
Votes were counted three times on election night. With a close margin between the two candidates a recount was requested which yielded the same results. The election was certified on Wednesday June 16.
The Mayor, Alderman at Large, Alderman Ward 1, and Alderman Ward 2 positions was uncontested, and the Alderman Ward 3 position was decided in the primary election held on April 6. Incumbent Alderwoman of Ward 3 Janna Miller faced Democratic challenger Kevin Jones Sr. in the Democratic primary. Miller retained her position with 57 votes compared to Jones 23 votes.
