The Trojans took care of business last Friday in their 39-7 win over the Franklin County Bulldogs. The Trojans set the tone early, jumping out to a big lead.
The Trojans scored early and often in the first half with Ken Porter putting the first points on the board with a rushing touchdown three minutes into the game. The Trojan defense continued to be stifling as they have been all year.
Quarterback Kendall Middleton was locked in on the next drive. Middleton threw a deep ball to Antonio Floyd, followed by another deep shot to Christian Hubbard. Middleton threw his first touchdown pass of the game to Hubbard to put the Trojans ahead 14-0 in the first quarter.
Franklin County had no success mounting any offense of their own. De’Larrius Hayes and the Trojan defense were suffocating, forcing a Bulldog punt.
Middleton and Hubbard connected for a second touchdown when a 75 yard pass put the Trojans ahead 20-0. From this point the clear difference in talent between the teams was evident as the Trojans ran away with the game. A rushing touchdown by T.Y. Walker put the Trojans ahead 26-0. Akavion Griffith followed up with a defensive touchdown, scoring on an interception.
The Trojans led 33-0 at halftime. Middleton and Jeremiah Cole put a button on the game with a 40 yard passing touchdown in the third quarter to increase the Trojan lead to39-0. The Trojans were able to coast to a victory while keeping everyone healthy for their second-round matchup against Kemper County.
The Trojans will face a worthy opponent in the Wildcats this Friday at home. Both teams have similar records with the Trojans undefeated at 10-0 and Kemper CountyWildcats 10-1 with their loss coming against Noxubee County.
Head Coach Chase Courtney urges Trojan fans to show support this Friday as they prepare to take on a tough opponent in the second round of the playoffs.
He said, “Kemper might be our most difficult game to date. Their only loss was to number 1 in the state, Noxubee County. They feature a Dandy Dozen, Mario Nash, at tackle who has offers from multiple D1 schools and is committed to Florida State. Their running back has many offers as well, including Alabama and Auburn, but is committed to Mississippi State. We need home field to really play a factor. We would love for our fans to show up early, be loud, and set us up with home field advantage.”
