Congratulations to J’Kwon Gregory on signing a scholarship with Southeastern Baptist College to further his education and basketball career. J’Kwon will be joining the Chargers as a guard and plans to work hard and compete at a high level. His advice to underclassmen was to never quit and always keep working.

Mendenhall, MS/April 24, 2023 – Simpson County Academy is the recipient of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Safe Sports School award.
The award champions safety and recognizes secondary schools that have met the recommended standards to improve safety in sports. The award reinforces the importance of providing the best level of care, injury prevention, and treatment.

Simpson County School District (SCSD) is delighted to welcome five new administrators to its staff for the upcoming 2023-24 school year. These new administrators will join SCSD at the school and district level.

At the school level, SCSD welcomes one new director and two new principals:

Dr. Keri D. Armstrong, who will assume the position of director of the Simpson County Technical Center. An 18-year educator, Armstrong currently serves as assistant director of the Marion County Career and Technical Center, where she has also served as a counselor.

Fourth and fifth-grade students at Mendenhall Elementary School recently collected household items to donate to the Angelwings Domestic Abuse Center as a community service project. The service project was done in conjunction with Simpson County School District's new MajorClarity platform, which introduces students to different career paths and teaches them about responsibilities and duties they must perform in the field of their choice.

Given the success of public charter schools in the Magnolia State and the need to provide educational options, why aren’t there more than eight?

In 2013, the Mississippi Legislature enacted the “Mississippi Charter Schools Act”
providing authorization for a charter school oversight board and guidance for the formation of
charter schools in Mississippi. On Monday, April 17th, the state marked the ten-year anniversary of that legislation.
