MAGEE, MS – In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s timeless question, "What are you doing for others?" the Alpha Delta Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® spent the month of January mobilizing Simpson County for a common cause. On Monday, January 19, 2026, the chapter culminated its MLK Day of Service by delivering a massive collection of essential goods to local outreach shelters, Angel Wings and Means of Grace.
The initiative was a joint effort between the chapter’s Uplift Our Local Community Committee and Strengthen Our Sisterhood Committee. The members of the Alpha Delta Rho Omega Chapter personally donated the bulk of the items collected, demonstrating their deep commitment to the sorority’s mission of service to all mankind.
“It was an honor to spend this ‘day on’ ensuring that Angel Wings and Means of Grace have additional resources to serve those in need,” the chapter shared following the event.
The success of the drive was further bolstered by significant support from the Simpson County business community, including E&R Diesel Services and Priority One Bank in Magee. Key community contributions were also led by Simpson County residents Shanya Butler and Lashunda McLaurin.
The generosity of the members and partners resulted in a substantial inventory of supplies, including:
-
Paper & Plastic Goods: 105 rolls of bath tissue, 45 rolls of paper towels, and 332 pieces of cutlery.
-
Personal Care: 49 hair scrunchies, 18 combs, 13 brushes, and various dental and body care products.
-
Household Supplies: 187 heavy-duty trash bags, 8 bottles of dish soap, and 2 containers of bleach.
-
Linens & Clothing: 112 pairs of men's socks, 11 warm blankets, 6 pillows, and multiple sets of bedding and towels.
The Alpha Delta Rho Omega Chapter expressed deep gratitude to the neighbors who participated in contactless porch pickups and the dedicated members who spent the holiday picking up, sorting, and delivering these "gifts of service" to the shelters.
