Billy A. Craft, 81 of Richland, MS passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2025 at 0433 hours in Select Specialty Hospital, Jackson, Mississippi. He was born October 22, 1943, in Raleigh, Mississippi, to Oscar and Opal Craft.
The family later moved to Jackson, MS, where Billy complete his early education and graduated from Central High School in 1962. He attended Hinds Junior College before joining the United States Air Force. His military career included basic training at Lackland Air Force Base (AFB) and Air Training Command School at Sheppard AFB, Texas. In January 1968, while stationed at Eglin AFB, Florida, Billy was recommended for the Air Force Commendation Medal. A Citation to Accompany the Award was given, indicating Sergeant Craft distinguished himself as Communications Center Specialist, Wing Communications Center, 1980th Communications Squadron, Takhli Royal Thai AFB, Thailand, 21 Dec 1966- 24 Sept 1967, for his support of the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing Command Center.
On return to the States, Billy attended the University of Southern Mississippi at Hattiesburg earning a degree in computer science. He worked in various computer support positions for the Telephone Electronics Corporation (TEC) in Jackson and the Mississippi State Oil and Gas Board.
He was a dedicated son who cared greatly for his parents, becoming his mother’s caretaker for nineteen years before her passing in 2012. In recent years, he expressed concern for the health and well-being of children especially those suffering from medical hardships and those in war-torn countries. Billy was a man of faith although he did not participate regularly in religious services. However he watched church services on television and discussed the Bible often. In his last days, he indicated that he was ready to go to Heaven. He was ready to meet the Lord.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Opal Craft. Survivors include his brother, Joe Craft of Miami, Florida; and a host of cousins and other family members.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Double Church Cemetery, Raleigh, Mississippi. Dean Memorial Funeral Home of Brandon, MS is in charge of arrangements. (601) 825-3884.
