Columbus Laverne Roberts, 98, passed away March 3, 2024 . He was born Sunday, October 25, 1925, in Mt. Olive, Mississippi, to Roscoe and Annie Jane Box Roberts. After his loyal service in the United States Navy during WWII, Laverne returned home to Mt. Olive and married his WWII “pen pal” and sweetheart, Polly June Chain in 1948.
Visitation was held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church with funeral services following at 11:30. Burial followed at McNair Cemetery in Mt. Olive, Mississippi. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee was in charge of arrangements, 601-849-5031.
