MENDENHALL, MS – On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Community Noise Lab at Brown University School of Public Health, led by Dr. Erica Walker, will host “Destigmatizing The Flow: Conversation, Preparation, and Ideas”—a one-day conference and health fair dedicated to educating and empowering young girls and their caregivers. The event will take place at Co-Lin Community College Simpson County Center, located at 151 Co-Lin Drive in Mendenhall, Mississippi, from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all attendees. Open to girls ages 8 to 18, with a focus on those aged 8–12, the conference aims to promote open, healthy conversations about puberty, menstruation, and self-care. With the support of their mothers or caregivers, participants will gain knowledge and tools to confidently face the changes ahead.
“This is about more than just hygiene—it’s about building confidence, self-respect, and body literacy at a formative age,” said Toni Holloway, the event’s contact coordinator.
The day will feature a lineup of expert speakers covering topics including feminine hygiene, nutrition, skincare, domestic violence and sexual assault awareness, basic self-defense, and physical fitness. In addition, local vendors will be on-site offering health screenings and free promotional items.
Organized by the Community Noise Lab under the leadership of Dr. Walker, the event brings together public health expertise and grassroots community engagement to create a safe, informative, and welcoming space for learning and growth.
