The most recent in the line up of protestors against America comes with Gwen Berry, Olympian hammer thrower in track and field. Her protest was in the form of turning her back to the crowd during the National Anthem.
Her excuse was that she was protesting the tyranny of early America which allowed for slavery. That was very unfortunate, but there has been slavery since the dawn of time. Just look--in the Bible it is rampant.
Using her logic, the Bible itself should be banned. We think that has been tried before and the folks that did so did not fare so well.
We are the first to admit that many races and nations have been down trodden to promote some others’ agendas. But I would suppose all of those people plan to participate in the July 4th Holiday which is upon us.
The thing to do is to make the anthem inclusive--promote freedom for all instead of snubbing your nose at the symbols.
To take this a step further, if you do not like what the United States stands for you should not be competing on our behalf. That goes for professional sports, which is a private business. If you can’t follow the guidelines go do something else. No one is forcing your participation. If you are displeased, get in there and do something productive about it.
A lot of people have lost their lives defending and supporting what the anthem and flag stand for. To disrespect it is to disrespect them. Happy 4th of July.
Here’s hoping you have a pleasant and safe Fourth of July Holiday.
