Following last week’s Trump incited charge of the U.S. Capitol, the question is where do we go from here?
It seems as though the Democrats are going to have the opportunity to get retribution for the way they have been treated under the Trump administration. This is not to say that some of them did not bring their troubles upon themselves, but the bickering back and forth like children has to cease. With many important issues needing to be addressed, the taxpayer is left holding the bag while politicians take potshots at each other.
Funding from the most recent stimulus is misrepresented as aid to foreign countries. According to research, the amounts that were listed as foreign aid were already planned in the budget. The stimulus funds were included with those figures to misrepresent how the funds were to be spent.
No one on the Hill took time to explain that the $900 billion in relief funds were part of the $2.3 trillion budget which already included the payments to the foreign governments. The real question is whether the United States should be funding all of these projects with the uncertain financial condition that looms for the citizens of the U. S. in light of the world-wide pandemic. Unfortunately, the Republicans and Democrats could not come together until the 11th hour to offer assistance to the people of the United States.
What they offered was the additional $600 in stimulus funding and additional unemployment benefits. But that is not the real solution to people’s problems. If our government thinks $600 will do the trick, we are in a lot worse shape than many of us realized.
Another myth presented as the truth is that Congress gave themselves a pay raise during the pandemic. According to research, that did not happen. At one point, a cost of living adjustment was approved, but it was voted down by both the House and Senate. Typical congressional salaries are $174,000 per year with the exception of some leadership positions.
So both of these issues regarding funding and pay raises have been misrepresented as the truth, primarily through the internet.
A lot of information that is presented as fact is actually far from the truth. Meanwhile, the American people feel they are being left out in the cold.
We urge everyone to contact our leaders and stress to them the importance of stopping the sniping back and forth and doing what is in the best interests of the United States. It matters not what party is in power. Leaders must make decisions for the right reasons, not the political reasons, and things will take care of themselves.
