It was not a tramatic affair turning 61 years old. Other than “arthur” in my left knee I can’t tell life has changed a whole lot. . .well there are a few things. The idea of staying up late is not nearly as appealing as it used to be. I can do it on rare occassions. Playing too hard takes it toll and sometimes takes a few days to recover from.
At this age, there is not much in the way of birthday presents that you need or really want. The granddaughter came down for they day so that was be good time. She and Nancy seem to have a ball when they get together and spend time.
Nancy is in that spoiling mode so they get things like dinosaur house shoes and eat candy and stay up late.
Anne Caroline’s pup, Lucy, decided to eat the Santa Claus that sits on the hearth, the one that Anne Caroline tells what she wants for Christmas. She wants a dump truck this year. Bet she gets one. So anyway, she had a bit of a meltdown when she saw Lucy had had her way with Santa. She raised her hands and said “Oh no! No Christmas!”
Friday evening I drove to Laurel to pick up a tool cabinet to help clean up under the carport. The weekend before I got a rolling workbench with plenty of storage. Nancy was impressed and told me to get a vertical storage cabinet also. She was tired of seeing all the junk under the carport that we had no place to store.
I have finally gotten her to buy into the concept of getting rid of stuff we have acquired that we don’t need or use. Really, why hold on to hula skirts that have been in the closet for 15 years? It does not matter whether you need them or not, if you haven’t used them in 15 years it’s time to go.
I am just as guilty. I still have my military uniforms that have not been worn in 40 years. Go figure. I had asked my son-in-law Brooks to help unload the cabinet. He gets a call that Anna Lauren had a wreck on I-55 near Madison. She was fine and fortunately, so was Anne Caroline, who had ridden with Brooks to Magee. Anna Lauren had the 100 pound designer dog with her. She was not injured but her little car has seen better days. Despite very little damage to the car she hit, of course its occupants had to be transported by ambulance. That is why we have insurance.
Saturday I got to play golf with Brooks, which was fun. We team up with Kelly Barnes, Amie Green and Charles Baldwin. While I am not a good golfer, watching someone play so well is really fun for me. The plan is to get in 18 holes on Saturday morning and then spend the afternoon with Granny and Anne Caroline. Brooks was feeling a bit puny, as did Anne Caroline. They canceled their plans to go to a wedding and Anne Caroline stayed with them since she was not at the top of her game. We were able to visit at the Baldwins so it was not so bad as birthdays go.
