Elaine was born on December 21, 1935, in Simpson County, Mississippi, to parents Joe Henry and Bernadine McDaniel. She was a graduate of Mississippi School for the Deaf in Jackson, MS. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Mendenhall. She had married her sweetheart, Coach Marshall Don Deer, on December 13, 1958. Elaine was a devoted wife and homemaker.
