JT Cockrell, Jr., 90, of Mendenhall, MS passed away Friday, February 9, 2024, at his residence in Mendenhall. He was born Thursday, May 25, 1933, in Weathersby, Mississippi.
Visitation was held on Sunday, February 11, 2024, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall and on Monday, February 12, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Graveside services were held on Monday, February 12, 2024 at 11:30 a.m. at Mendenhall Cemetery. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall was in charge of arrangements, 601-847-4401.
He was retired from Region 8 Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation Center. He then went to work for Simpson County Sheriff’s Department and later retired fully.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Karrie Michelle Cockrell; step-son, Robert Hughes; parents, JT Cockrell, Sr. and Eva Beatrice Cockrell; brother, Gene Allen Cockrell; sisters, Louise Stephens and Pauline Gowan.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bates Cockrell of Mendenhall, MS; sons, Kenneth Cockrell (Trish), Kevin Cockrell (Christy) and Keith Cockrell; daughter, Kim Woodward (Chester); step-son, Mike Hughes (Regina); step-daughter, Phyllis Rhodes (Wayne); grandchildren, Stephanie McCollum (Greg), London Brown, Harlie Blakeney (Kyle), Bayley Sullivan (Brian), Skylar Woodward, Devon Cockrell (Jackie), Patrick Cockrell (Carley) and Gavin Cockrell; and a host of great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were London Brown, Devin Cockrell, Patrick Cockrell, Gavin Cockrell, Brian Sullivan, and Kyle Blakeney.
Honorary pallbearer was Chester Woodward.
