This is a Paid Political
Announcement.
My name is Lawana Wade Thompson. I am pleased to announce that I am running for re-election as your Alderman for Ward 2 in the City of Magee.
I was married to the late Danny Joe Thompson, a lifelong resident of Magee. We married on March 3, 1990, and I have been a resident of Magee since that time. We have one son, Hunter Thompson. He and our daughter-in-law, Julie Underwood Thompson, have a 4-month-old daughter, Dani Leigh Thompson. I am a member of First Baptist Church of Magee, where I have participated in the Choir for 26 years and Ensemble for about 18 years. I am also an active member of the Magee Chamber of Commerce and have been for many years.
I have been a public servant for most of my life. I was employed for 27 years with the Great State of Mississippi, which began when I started working at the MS Department of Revenue in 1984 at 19 years of age. After seven years at DOR, I transferred to the Mississippi State Department of Health, where I worked or 20 years with 18 of those years in Simpson County as Office Manager for our local health department and two years in Jackson, MS reporting directly to the State Health Officer as a liaison for the local health departments in 81 counties. I am currently employed by Cadence Bank, serving local residents as a Personal Banker in Magee since January 2021.
My experience and skills are relevant to the job of Alderman. I have served in a variety of support service functions such as personnel management, general accounting, oversight of records, and budget stewardship. Additionally, I have experience in analyzing problems that require my judgment in the interpretation, application, and enforcement of statutes, rules, regulations, and policies.
I am running for re-election as your Alderman for Ward 2 because, like you, I have concerns about our city such as our safety, accountability in leadership, fiscal responsibility, city government transparency, and overall quality of life issues that must be addressed. If re-elected, I will continue to work toward gaining consensus amongst the board members to act on issues rather than putting them on the back burner.
It is increasingly difficult to find local government officials who can be independent thinkers and will challenge the system that has created many of the problems that we face today. I have and will continue to challenge the status quo and commit to upholding and enforcing the laws and ordinances already established for our city.
I am honored to have been your Alderman for the past two years and do my best to help when you let me know of your concerns. If re-elected, I will continue to listen fairly and thoughtfully to make good decisions. I will always have both Ward 2 and the City of Magee’s best interest at heart and will speak up on your behalf to the best of my ability.
Most importantly, I have been and will continue striving to ensure that our city operates with the highest level of honesty, integrity, and transparency always no matter what the situation may be.
I would appreciate your vote and support for the position of Alderman for Ward 2 once again on April 1, 2025. I also covet your prayers as I continue on this journey.
May God bless and keep you always,
Lawana Wade Thompson
