How dumb do libs think
conservatives are?
Dear Editor:
Donna McLean’s most recent opinion (How dumb do libs think conservatives are?) published in the August 8, 2020, Magee Courier/Simpson County News is another example of how far she will go to promote hate, intolerance, and bigotry. I wonder how many Democrats or liberals she knows. Certainly she’s never met me or others like me. I am a Democrat. I support the rights guaranteed to all Americans in the Bill of Rights and the Constitution. I defend freedom of speech, even hers. I believe it’s your right to own guns, and I support that. It’s your money and your choice. It’s also my choice to not bear arms against others. That’s free will. I support freedom of religion for all. I want her to keep her Bible and I urge her to read and study it, focusing on Christ’s command to love one another. Whether the Bible, the Torah, or the Koran, all share a common love and devotion to our universal God and His unconditional love. As for the antifa/fascism debate, surely by now we allknow fascism is the ultimate definition of evil and inhumanity. No one who follow’s God’s word could support fascism. And “antifa” literally means anti-fascism.
We should never forget that our freedom of choice carries an equally great sense of responsibility to choose our words carefully, to consider the least among us, to accept and embrace our differences with compassion, and to focus on our common humanity as God’s children..
Her opinions leave me deeply saddened, discouraged and dismayed. What will be her reply when she meets her Maker and He asks, “What did you do to leave my world a better place?” In her own words, published in your paper: “I promoted hate, intolerance, lies, bigotry, and hypocrisy. I defied and insulted Christ’s commands to love one another, turn the other cheek, and do unto others as I would have them to do to me. I refused to recognize that individuals are the result of their own unique experiences, not my own. I insisted that only those who agreed with me had value in Your and my eyes.”
Her words leave me with a profound sense of pity for her and those like her. Her chosen path leads Americans further away from greatness and nearer to our mutual destruction. Pray for her, for us all.
