Dear Editor,
I would like to thank the Magee Courier for the inclusion of articles by Lynn Tutor. I always read anything she produces. I enjoy her sense of humor and her dedication to trying to enlighten others about history. Well done!
P.S. I would love to hear any recollections Ms. Tutor has about the following. I would also love to know more about the biographical information about this special member of our community.
Historical Topics:
1. The day President Truman held up the newspaper with the headline, "Dewey Wins".
2. The election "irregularities" in the Kennedy/Nixon election with regards to Cook County, Illinois and Brownsville, Texas late reporting of results. {How did the locals view this?)
3. The day in May, 1948 Israel was "born in a day''. Did this stand out prophetically to the locals?
4. The drive-in theater
5. The roller rink
6. Mule teams on Saturday night for shoppers/entertainment evenings
7. School letting out in the Fall for students to 'pick cotton'
8. V-E and V-J day here in Magee-were there celebrations?
9. How was the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki received in Magee? ' Nuclear' understood?
Sincerely
Linda Bulger
