Well, I and other parents have witnessed first hand on how well the schools are enforcing wearing masks and how safe they are really being. I let my daughter start summer school last week and needless to say after her 3rd day, I did NOT let her go back. I was skeptical at first about letting her go, but when I was told the teachers and students had to wear masks and they were going to keep things clean, hand sanitizer, etc., and also that there were only going to be very few students in each class that were attending summer school, I thought we would give it a try. After what I saw and what my daughter told me, I immediately made the decision to not send her back. Now waiting out two weeks hoping that she, I, nor her brother hasn’t been exposed and end up with Covid. Not all of the teachers, nor principal were wearing masks. Some teachers were and every kid I saw get out of their car was wearing a mask, but after entering class, they let the children take their masks off for the entire day and while standing inside waiting on their parent to pick them up at end of school, my daughter said they did not make all of the students wear a mask. Some students wore them, but some didn’t and the teachers didn’t enforce it. The first day we pulled up, let our window down they scanned her temp and she got out and went to class. The second day I had my father drop her off. Thursday, the third day, I witnessed one of her teachers, of course, one that was not wearing a mask, opening the door of every car in front of me, either leaning in the car, then taking the child’s temp or helping the child out, then taking their temps. That was very concerning. He had no clue if that child was running a temp before he helped them out of the car, or who in that car may have been coughing, sick, etc., before he leaned into the car, while he’s not wearing a mask himself. Not to mention the teachers are switching classes, so if they are not all wearing masks and letting the children take their masks off for the day, then they are switching from group to group to where they can catch it and/or spread it from a child/children that may be asymptomatic or not yet showing symptoms and then head to another class that is also not wearing masks or maybe the teacher is asymptomatic or not showing symptoms yet and not wearing a mask putting out there respiratory droplets in the air for our children to inhale. That is way too risky for the children, and the teachers, and absolutely, NOT safe at all. Our children do NOT need to be used as testing subjects and take the risk of being put in danger and then take it home to their parents and grandparents and put them in danger also. If you’re going by the votes at the end of the school year, then I suggest, you should have a new vote as to what parents are wanting to do NOW. We have a ton more cases than we did at the end of school, and it’s a whole different situation now. Most parents right NOW, in the present time, feel safer in doing virtual learning or home school. I personally don’t know one parent that wants to send their kids back to school yet. As with the learning packets at the end of school , it was well known that those papers were not being graded and just going to be thrown away and not all teachers got online and taught their classes, nor helped. My son’s class made a special Facebook page for their grade, to where the teachers can get on, teach something out of their packet daily, but his science teacher was the ONLY one that did that for the first week. If you make it to where the teachers go to school, not the kids, and make sure the teachers are teaching their classes online and the papers are actually being graded, then it would be a different situation and that would work a lot better. I personally would rather have the option in choosing if my children will do virtual or face to face learning. The majority wants the option and that’s how it should be. Why should we have to send our kids back to school and be in fear daily?? That’s not fair, nor is it right to make people send their kids to school during a PANDEMIC of a VIRUS, that is affecting people differently to where there is asymptomatic to mild symptoms, to severe symptoms and even death. You’re putting children and their family members they have to go home to at risk. You just don’t know at this point what symptoms each person is going to have. There have been so many healthy people that have had severe symptoms or died. I DO NOT want to put my children in school and use them as testing subjects and put them in danger. “WE SHOULD HAVE A CHOICE” to either send our kids face to face or choose virtual. If doing virtual, you have to make it to where the teachers are actually going to teach their classes online and grade the papers. Having the choice of face to face or virtual is the BEST option, “IF”, you feel, you just “HAVE” to open schools back up right now, which honestly is INSANE !!!! Main thing is, parents should be able to choose.
