Jackson, Miss. - Mississippi Forestry Association (MFA) named Ben Gipson of Braxton, Mississippi, as the 2023 MFA Outstanding Youth Forestry Achievement 2nd place award recipient. Gipson is currently a senior at Discovery Christian School.
Gipson is involved in his school’s student government association and has worked to manage the timber on his family’s property through timber stand improvement efforts in previously unmanaged pine forests. He also worked to plant and manage native warm season grasses, conducted and oversaw a prescribed burn on their property, and improved overall habitat on their working farm in Simpson County.
Mississippi Forestry Association's vision is to serve as the "Voice of Forestry" in Mississippi. MFA’s mission is leading diverse groups to promote landowner rights, environmental stewardship, member prosperity, and community understanding. MFA members and staff work to accomplish the mission by conducting public affairs, communication, and education programs that will foster better understanding and appreciation of conservation, development, and use of forestland and resources.
