The Magee Trojans pushed their win streak to three games and are perfect in district play after a 44-6 win over the McLaurin Tigers.
The Trojans scored early and often, and quarterback Tristan Newsome set the tone early with a 43-yard touchdown pass to DQ Levy.
Defensively the Trojans dominated the Tigers, routinely getting the ball back for the offense. The Tigers offered little resistance and were completely overmatched from the start. The Trojans played the brand of football their fans have become accustomed to, which consisted of stifling defense and a well-run offense. On the next offensive possession for the Trojans, Demichael Green capped the drive with a 39-yard touchdown run to push their lead to 14-0.
Braeden Gregory’s 37-yard run on the next possession set up another touchdown for the Trojans. Demichael Green cashed in on an 82-yard touchdown run on the next possession to give the Trojans a 30-0 lead at halftime. The reserves were able to play a good portion of the second half and gain some experience. Magee managed to score two additional touchdowns on special teams, thanks to the efforts of Kyerston Oreo Tucker, who accounted for a punt return TD and a kickoff return TD following McLaurin’s only score.
The Trojans overwhelmed McLaurin with superior talent and will look to ride this momentum into their home matchup against the undefeated Hazlehurst Indians. The Trojans now have an overall record of 4-2 and are 1-0 in their district. This Friday will be the first of back-to-back tough games for the Trojans as they hunt for a district championship on the road to state.
