President Joseph Biden has nominated Simpson County native Miranda Holloway-Baggett to serve as the next United States Marshal for the Southern District of Alabama.
Holloway-Baggett, a 1990 graduate of Magee High School, has 29 years of law enforcement experience, 23 years with the United States Marshal Service.
The White House Press Release stated, "This official will be indispensable to upholding the rule of law and was chosen for her devotion to enforcing the law, her professionalism, her experience and credentials, and her dedication to pursuing equal justice for all.”
Holloway-Baggett was recommended to President Biden by Alabama Congresswoman Terri Sewell. In her April 17 Press Release, Congresswoman Sewell stated, “I am thrilled that President Biden has selected Miranda Holloway-Baggett to serve as U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Alabama. Her 23 years of experience, exemplary professionalism, and dedication to the rule of law make her an ideal candidate for this role. I was proud to recommend her to President Biden and I urge my Senate colleagues to swiftly confirm her nomination."
Holloway-Baggett’s nomination was received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on the Judiciary on April 18, 2024 for review.
She has held various roles in Ohio, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri and Alabama. These roles include Deputy U.S. Marshal, Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal, Assistant Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal, and she served from 2019 through 2023 as Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal in Southern Alabama. Currently, she serves as Chief Inspector/Discipline Deciding Official for the United States Marshals Service assigned to the Office of the Director. She received her master’s degree in management from the University of Phoenix, her bachelor of science degree in criminal justice and corrective services from Jackson State University and associate’s degree from Copiah Lincoln Community College.
If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, she will become the first African-American female to be appointed U.S. Marshal in the State of Alabama.
Ms. Holloway-Baggett says she’s honored for the confidence Congresswoman Sewell has shown in her by recommending her to become the next U.S. Marshal for the Southern District of Alabama and is humbled to be considered for such a prestigious position. She’s excited as she continues to move forward in the nomination process.
She is the daughter of Marshall and Patricia Holloway and the mother of Darrion Holloway, Sr., all of Magee, MS.
She is married to Kevin D. Baggett, and they reside in Daphne, Alabama.
