The Nation's Weather for Friday, January 3, 2025
_____
NATIONAL SUMMARY
Lake-effect snow showers will continue across much of the
Great Lakes region tomorrow. The heaviest bands of snow can
be north of Syracuse on I-81 and northeast of Cleveland on
I-90, south of Buffalo. Steady snow is expected in the
Appalachians of mainly West Virginia. There can be snow
squalls that could affect evening rush hour around
Washington, D.C., and Baltimore. Any squall could lead to
sudden reduced visibility and a quick burst of snow that may
accumulate on roads, creating hazardous travel. An arctic
air mass will continue to invade areas from the Plains into
the Southeast; temperatures can be 5 to 15 degrees below
historical averages. Rain from Northern California up
through western Washington and Oregon is expected from an
offshore storm; snow can accumulate in the Cascades.
