Simpson County Board of Supervisors received a quote from Grant Blakeney for repair of State Aid Bridges in the amount of $78,000. Monday, the board approved moving ahead on the repairs based on an emergency declaration.
County Engineer Buddy Wolverton reported to the board the status of road projects in the county. He also reported that the contractor, T. L. Wallace, is non-compliant with times on road resurfacing projects in Simpson County and is now being assessed $200 per day for not meeting terms outlined in the contract. Wolverton has been in contact with Wallace, and they continue to put off Simpson County.
The board heard from the Sheriff’s Department regarding the purchase of new vehicles. The sheriff plans to purchase two new Ford F-150 pick up trucks with police packages on them. The price the sheriff quoted to the board was $32,579 for the F-150s. He also plans to add a new Ford Explorer to the fleet. This was not a final price because they may be less expensive through state contract, but the cost of the Explorer was $32,858.
The board approved a memorandum of agreement for the Simpson County Park Commission, the board itself, Pearl River Basin Development District and the Mississippi Department of Transportation in regard to the new bridge that is to replace the one in D’Lo south of the park entrance.
