All businesses are to be allowed to re-open on June 1, 2020.
This according to Governor Tate Reeves in his daily press conference on Wednesday afternoon. So, the Safer at Home order is now a Safe Return to work. This however does not include everyone.
The Governor is recommending if you are over the age 65 or have existing health issues it is better to extend the Safer at Home order that is recommended by the Governor.
The threat of Covid-19 is still alive and is still spreading. A recent funeral was reported by Dr. Dobbs, state epidemiologist said that the event was not held at a funeral home and the virus spread from one infected person to 18 new cases.
There is also a problem at Wayne County the totaling number of cases is doubling on a four-day basis this compared to Newton County which was taking 16 days to double. There were several counties that were in the proximity of Lauderdale County to include Scott County. They are under extended restrictions and deadlines than the rest of the state. Governor Reeves said, “The virus is here and it is still spreading.” Reeves said that the first case was detected in March and three months later we are returning to work.
Reeves said the purpose of the shutdown that we have experienced in the state was to slow down the spread of the virus.
“In Mississippi we have flattened the curve,” said Reeves.
Reeves said there would still be several restrictions to start on June 1. Social distance is still the name of the game. If social distancing can be practiced crowds of up to 50 will be allowed inside and 100 in the outside environment.
If social distancing is not possible then the number of people is reduced to 20 inside and 50 outside.
Part of the new guidelines include that hospitals have at least 25 percent occupancy available for Covid patients. Schools will be open to allow for missed materials that were not available for distance learning.
