Norman Kennedy Dorr, age 78, of Mendenhall, MS, passed away on August 22, 2025. He was born in Oxford, MS, on July 4, 1947, and was the beloved son of Leonard Ira and Virginia Dorr.
Norman proudly served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard for 22 years. He served two tours in the Vietnam War and was an honorable veteran of the United States of America. His military service took him to many places, including Columbus, MS; Maine; the Philippines; Australia; Hawaii; Rome; Germany; and England. What great stories he shared!
Following his military service, Norman continued to serve his community as a police officer with the City of Jackson, and upon retirement, subsequently worked with the Veterans Hospital as a police officer.
Norman was preceded in death by his loving parents, Leonard Ira and Virginia Dorr, and his sister, Jenny Sue Carroll, and brother-in-law, Charles.
He is survived by his sister, Rose Anna Welch (Jimmy); his nephew, Jimmy Welch, Jr. (Shelia); his niece, Suzie Shuck (Brad); his niece, Julie Gieger (Steve); as well as five great-nieces and nephews, a great-great-nephew, and a multitude of loving friends.
A military funeral service to honor his life was held on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with visitation beginning at 9 a.m. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery.
