Class of 1976
It has been nearly 50 years since the class of 76 marched down the Trojan field for graduation and the journey to adulthood. One may wonder, ‘what ever happened to the class of 1976?’ Well, as you may suspect, many has since passed. Though a great many went off to college to further their education, there were quite a few who joined a branch of some form of the military.
Some stayed in Magee while others left the city, the state and yes, the country. Sylvia Hayes was one of those who left the state. After graduation from MHS she attended Utica Jr. College and then on to USM. In 1981 she moved to Atlanta GA to pursue a career in all forms of entertainment including modeling, acting, singing and dancing. She was a producer, director and talk show host at People TV in Atlanta for 20+ years and is currently a stagehand with Live Nation.
As quiet as she was in high school it would be shocking to see her on the big screen. Yes, you can get a glimpse of her in “Night School”, “Final Count”, “Greenleaf” and the most recent one is “The Last Days of Ptolemy Grey” in the 5th episode just to name a few. Her production company has produced a movie “Only At An Old Folks Home” which can be seen on Fawesome. She also teaches Health and Stress Management. Not only is she on the cover of a book, but she is also the author and publisher of her own book “Power Thoughts”, Empowering for a Successful Life. Though the book is good for everybody, her original target was for the youth.
Since women go thru so much it would only be right to empower the women as well. Words from her book has enhanced many lives in the school system and on her television show. Sylvia will make a guest appearance at the Magee Library on Tuesday July 15 at 3:00 p.m. to sign copies of her book. You can also order it on line from www.lulu.com.
