The Mississippi Scholars Simpson County Steering Committee will host its annual Mississippi Scholars and Tech Master Scholars Recognition Reception this year at the Magee High School Auditorium on Thursday, April 23, at 6 p.m.
The event will feature Drummonds McAlpin as the keynote speaker. McAlpin, the president and CEO of Southern Pine Electric Cooperative, will offer words of inspiration and challenge to the students in the Mississippi Scholars Program as they prepare for their next chapter of their lives.
He has served Southern Pine for more than 15 years. During that time, he held several leadership roles within the cooperative, including district manager and vice president of administration, before being named president and CEO.
The reception celebrates the outstanding achievements of high school seniors from Magee High School, Mendenhall High School, Simpson Academy, and the Simpson County Technical Center who have met the program’s rigorous academic and community service standards.
The Mississippi Scholars Program, an initiative supported by business and education leaders, encourages high school students to pursue a more rigorous course of study and become active contributors to their communities.
