Ruby Faye Pope, 92, of Braxton, MS, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at the Bedford Care Center in Mendenhall, MS. She was born Wednesday, August 24, 1932, in Stringer, MS.
Visitation was held on Saturday, May 10, 2025, from 12 noon until 2 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall, 3077 Simpson Hwy 13, Mendenhall, MS. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall. Burial followed in Braxton City Cemetery in Braxton, MS. Bro. Timothy Carlisle officiated. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Mendenhall was in charge of arrangements, 601-847-4401.
Faye was a family woman through and through. She loved deeply, especially when it came to her family. She loved to garden and spend time outdoors. She was a wonderful cook, but she also loved to teach her kids and grandkids how to cook. Faye ran the school lunch program at Mendenhall Elementary and High School for many many years and afterwards became a dispatcher for the Simpson County Sheriff’s Department until her retirement. She loved the Lord and enjoyed being a faithful member of Braxton First Baptist, where she also taught Sunday school. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Pope; son, Danny Pope; daughter, Julia Pope; father, Ira Washington Stringer; mother, Mittie Trest Stringer; brothers, Bill Stringer, Don Stringer and Ira Stringer, Jr.; sister, Gaye Stringer Grice; grandson, Christopher Pope; son-in-law, James Melvin Bishop.
Survivors include her sisters, Judy Stringer Smith (James) and Teresa Stringer Sherman (Gary); sons, Michael E. Pope (Loretta), Timothy Pope (Joy) and Dr. Robert Pope (Joann); daughter, Lisa Pope Bishop; grandchildren, Angela Pope Strausborger (David), Belinda Pope Ainsworth (Kevin), Ricky Grubbs (Kimberly), Michael D. Pope (Tabitha), Kevin Smith (Krysta), Tabatha Pope, Krista Smith, Veda Pope, Neva Pope, Michael Bishop, Melanie Bishop, Jerrid Hickman (Carol), Jeffery Hickman (Brandy), Benny Bullock (Ashley), John Traylor, Austin Peets (Brittany) and Sara "Mary Beth" Smith (Logan); and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers were Kevin Smith, Ricky Grubbs, Mikie Pope, Austin Peets, Jeffery Hickman, and Jerrid Hickman.
