Simpson General Hospital held a Donate Life flag-raising ceremony last week to honor organ and tissue donors and recipients.
Representatives from the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency (MORA) were on hand to assist and presented Simpson General Hospital with a Gold Level DoNation Award for their achievement with the campaign. Points are awarded throughout the year based on activities completed and various goals reached. DoNation is a national recognition sponsored by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). Since HRSA’s organ donation campaign began 13 years ago, partners have helped over 662,500 people register as organ, eye, and tissue donors. Thanks to these efforts, more organs are available for life-saving transplants, helping people across the country live longer, healthier lives. Through the 2024 DoNation Campaign, workplaces of all sizes and industries came together to encourage organ, eye, and tissue donation. A total of 1,434 partners – including 1,265 hospitals and 169 other workplaces – joined with donation organizations to inspire 23,104 new donor registrations.
In addition, Shana Lane was awarded the Spero Award and recognized as a Nurse Champion for her work with MORA in promoting awareness and donation to save and improve lives.
