The Simpson Cougars played two games last week against Columbia Academy. The Cougars secured the 2018 District 3 AAAA Championship and will enter the playoffs as the number one seed out of the south.
Columbia Academy Game 1
Columbia 7 Simpson 3-Getting hits for Simpson were Noah Magee with a homerun, a single, and 2 RBI’s, Thomas Pepper a single, and Caleb Garner a RBI.
Pitching for Simpson were Caleb Garner 4 innings with 9 strikeouts, Lawton Kennedy 2 innings with a strikeout, and Warner Watkins 1 inning with a strikeout. The loss dropped Simpson’s record to 14-15 on the season.
Columbia Academy, Game 2
Columbia 3 Simpson 2-Getting hits for Simpson were Hooks Harvey a single, Bowen Kelly a single and a RBI, Lawton Kennedy a single, and Noah Magee a single and a RBI.
Pitching for Simpson were John Cole Giordano 3 innings with 5 strikeouts and Hooks Harvey 3 innings with a strikeout. The loss dropped Simpson’s record to 14-16 on the season.
In Junior High action the 7th Grade lost to Presbyterian Christian 3-2 and the 8th Grade lost to Presbyterian Christian 6-1. The 7th Grade ended their season with a record of 7-3 and the 8th Grade ended their season with a record of 7-3.
The Cougars opened up playoff action Tuesday and Wednesday against East Rankin Academy, if the Cougars win this series they will play the winner of the Washington School/Hartfield Academy series the week of May 7th.
