The Simpson Cougars opened the MAIS AAAA DII Playoffs against the East Rankin Patriots this past week taking the series 2-0.
East Rankin Academy, Game 1
Simpson 6 East Rankin 1-Getting hits for Simpson were Bryce Jensen with a grand slam homerun and 4 RBI’s, Hooks Harvey a double, Lawton Kennedy a single, Bowen Kelly a single, Morgan Leonard a double ‘and 2 RBI’s, Noah Magee a single, and Thomas Pepper a single.
Pitching for Simpson was Caleb Garner 7 innings with 8 strikeouts, The win improved Simpson’s record to 15-16 on the season.
East Rankin Academy, Game 2
Simpson 12 East Rankin 0-Getting hits for Simpson were Morgan Leonard a triple, a double, and 5 RBI’s, Caleb Garner two singles, John Cole Giordano a single, Hooks Harvey a single,
Bowen Kelly a RBI, Lawton Kennedy a single and a RBI, Noah Magee a single and a RBI, and Thomas Pepper a double and 2 RBI’s.
Pitching for Simpson was John Cole Giordano 4 innings with 4 strikeouts. The win improved Simpson’s record to 16-16 on the season.
The Cougars host Hartfield Academy on Thursday, May 10, in game 2 of the best of three series. If a game 3 is needed it will be played following game 2. If the Cougars win this series, they will play the winner of the Magnolia Heights School/Lamar School series the week of May 14th for the State AAAA DII Championship.
