It is coming down to the wire, and Magee has posted the same number of wins for the season as the number one team in the district, Velma Jackson.
Magee has a total of five wins as does Velma Jackon. The big difference is that Velma Jackson has won all four district games to Magee’s two wins and two losses in district play.
Last Friday the Trojans hit the road to face Crystal Springs, and while it was back and forth for awhile the Trojans posted another win.
Captains for the night were Jermond Winn, Taylor McGuire and Dyquan Lockhart.
Chandler Pittman started the evening with a return to Magee’s 28 yard line. The next play saw Pittman gaining two yards as he rushed up the strong side of the field. He then completed a pass to Josh Sanders for the first 1st down of the evening at the Crystal Springs 48. Pittman then completed a pass to Matthew Thurman and the ball would be down at the Tiger 44.
Winn would drive up the middle and make a first down at the Crystal Springs 20 yard line.
Pittman completed a pass to Jaden Chatman for a first and goal. Winn would carry the ball again and be down at the Tiger 6 yard line. With 8:36 on the clock in the first quarter the Trojans would post their first score for the evening, and the point after attempt would be good to give Magee a 7 to 0 lead.
Magee kicked to the Tiger 15 yard line, and Steven Durr would bring down the Tiger runner at the 41 yard line. Chase Rankin would then make a big stop for the Trojans.
The Tigers would continue to drive down the field only to be stopped at the Trojan 22 yard line.
Pittman completed a pass to Thurman to move the ball to the 28. Pittman would then scramble right and move the ball to the 45 yard line. Jaden Chatman faked a handoff to Winn.
The Trojans would end up with a 15 yard penalty because of comments from the sidelines, moving the ball back to the 39 yard line. The loss would force the Trojans to punt the ball.
Crystal Springs did not hold on to the ball long before Trojans would take possession again at their own 43. The end of the quarter still had Magee up by 7.
Pittman would drive the ball up the middle to the 31 yard line, only to be sacked in the next play back at the 40 yard line. Sanders would then take possession, sidestep his defender and score again for the Trojans. The Trojans took a 14 to 0 lead.
It did not take long for the Tigers to complete a hail mary and score with their extra point, reducing the Trojan lead to 7 points.
The Trojans received the kickoff, but a 3 and out soon forced them to punt. Lance McCullough would make an interception at that point, and the Trojans would get the ball at the 27 yard line. Chatman would drive up the middle for a first down at the 37.
The end of the first half saw the Trojans heading to the dressing room with a 14 to 7 lead.
Crystal Springs would receive the ball at the start of the second half only to be forced to punt a few plays later.
Trojans took possession at their own 30. Pittman completed a pass to George Warren, who makes a first down at the Trojan 42. Chatman completed another pass to Warren, only this time the Tigers snatched the ball and took possession. But the Tigers were forced to punt, and the Trojans managed a field goal, making the score 17 to 7.
At 4:33 left in the third, Crystal Springs scored again on a long pass to make the score 17 to 14. The quarter ended with Magee up by 3.
Sanders would make another interception before the Trojans were forced to punt the ball again. With 6:28 on the clock in the fourth quarter the Trojans scored again for a 24 to 14 lead.
The Tigers would post a field goal for the final score for the evening, Magee 24 and Crystal Springs 17.
Magee will face McLaurin Friday night for the last game of the regular season. McLaurin has a one and nine record coming into their final game.
