Simpson County deputies were in the area of LD Walker Road, Dr. Magee Road, and Cole Road South last weekend looking for an individual who was allegedly stealing trail cameras and destroying citizen’s hunting stands. The man was also suspected in other burglaries in the northern part of the county.
After an extensive search, deputies were finally alerted to a man who fit the physical description of the suspect walking on Dry Creek Road.
When deputies made contact, the man ran off to a nearby wooded area. After a short chase, he was arrested. The department was not readily able to identity the man; however, they were confident that he is an undocumented immigrant. The suspect has since been identified as Jefferson David Espinosa Zelaya. He was charged with trespassing, malicious mischief, and simple assault on a law enforcement officer and will have his initial appearance in Simpson County Justice Court.
Deputies do not know his country of origin yet. The Sheriff's Office asked everyone to make sure they secure all valuables and lock vehicles. The Sheriff's Office thanked the members of the community who called in tips that aided in this arrest. arrest.
