Attorney general: No chance at parole for West

A former Franciscan friar has been found guilty of sexually abusing a grade-school student during the 1990s at a Greenwood Catholic school.
A Leflore County jury deliberated less than an hour Wednesday before finding Paul West guilty of one count of sexual battery and one count of gratification of lust.

Hurt artifact returned; poster belonging to late bluesman given to his family

A treasured artifact belonging to blues musician Mississippi John Hurt is now back in his family’s possession.
David Brown, a former reporter for the Commonwealth who has also worked at The Washington Post, returned a 1944 election poster of Franklin Delano Roosevelt to Mary Frances Hurt, one of John Hurt’s granddaughters, on Tuesday.

Express Grain confirmed sold to UMB Bank for $25 million

The primary assets of Express Grain Terminals LLC have been sold to UMB Bank, the failed company’s bankruptcy attorney has confirmed.
“We are going about the business now of winding up the sale and transitioning from Express Grain over to UMB,” Craig Geno said Saturday.
