The Mendenhall Tigers dominated the Simpson County Super Bowl Friday night, powering past the Magee Trojans in a 47-14 victory.
Mendenhall took control early behind running back Eddie Weathersby’s opening touchdown and quarterback Ty Davis’ rushing score. Davis later connected with Jaiwon Williams on a 23-yard touchdown as the Tigers built a 20-0 halftime lead. Running back Jeremy Butts was the star of the night, racking up 147 yards and 2 touchdowns, including a 42-yard dash in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Lane Purser added the final score to cap the Tigers’ win. Magee showed fight late with a 51-yard touchdown pass from Travon Magee to Treyvion Gregory and a 5-yard scoring run by T.Y. Walker.
But injuries along the offensive line hampered the Trojans most of the night.“We still have some things to clean up but we looked a lot better from week 1,” said Mendenhall head coach Chuckie Allen. “We played hard and executed well and built some momentum for next week.”
“Mendenhall played a great game,” Magee head coach Chase Courtney said. “We were hit with some injuries so we are still figuring that out. We’re going to keep working and we’ll be better next week.”
The Tigers (1-1) will host South Pike this Friday, while the Trojans (1-1) travel to face Mize.
