I was told by the young woman who is in charge, that this would be “the last birth of a grandchild the Magee public would have to read about by me. Our daughter Anna Lauren delivered Brooks Clinton Baldwin, our grandson, last Monday night in Memphis. I had written about our first grandchild, Anne Caroline, some three years earlier.
I believe Anna Lauren’s point was that she has experienced childbirth twice and that was all she needed to get the full experience.
It all started with a phone call at 4:20 on Monday morning telling us to get ready. I had hounded her to let me be the first to know about the upcoming arrival of baby Brooks. So she did.
Mom and I got our stuff loaded in the car and pulled out about 7 a.m. headed to Memphis, Germantown to be exact. At about 9 a.m. we got the call that we could turn around and head home. Anna Lauren said it was not time after all.
We told her we were well on the way and we would be there as planned. We met them in Batesville so she could leave her work vehicle and loaded up and headed back to Memphis. I asked Anna Lauren if we could look at campers along the way. That did not go over so well, but she agreed. I knew it was time to quit playing around.
We grabbed lunch and headed to their house. That afternoon I suggested we should go ride down a bumpy road to speed things along, which was also met with cross looks. It was time to hush my mouth. The contractions had started back and by the time we were supposed to pick up Anne Caroline from daycare, they were coming on a regular basis. When Daddy Brooks got home about 5:30 it began to look like this was finally a go.
We were soon notified that we should come to the hospital. We called the neighbor to come sit with Anne Caroline and off we went.
At about 9 p.m. Monday night we learned about the arrival of Brooks Clinton. At 10:30 they moved baby and mother into a room and Poppie and Fancy headed back to the house. Not long afterwards, Brooks’ parents, Charles and Rhonda, appeared at the hospital to welcome the new grandbaby.
Tuesday morning, we had breakfast and took Anne Caroline to meet little Brooks. We spent a good while with the new momma and poppa along with Sis. At 10 a.m. Anna Lauren and new baby boy were released from the hospital because they were ready to come home.
At noon on Wednesday, we headed home so we could get back to work and on with our duties. As of this writing everyone is in fine condition and life moves on for us all.
Several friends and family members have asked if young Brooks has been out on the golf course yet. To our knowledge he has not; however, knowing his dad it will not be long before he is experiencing the greens first hand. Heck, Anne Caroline has a set of clubs and Fancy and Poppie have already bought her her own battery-powered golf cart. So Brooks will be having to caddy for her before too long. I laugh now because Anna Lauren wanted nothing to do with golf when she was little.
A special thanks to God for delivering us yet another blessing!
