Copiah-Lincoln Community College's Simpson County Center is celebrating a year of major achievements, student success, and two decades of service to the local community.
Co-Lin President Dr. Dewayne Middleton appeared before the Simpson County Board of Supervisors this week and shared some recent successes of the Co-Lin Simpson County Center.
For the third consecutive year, Co-Lin was ranked No. 1 in student success among all 15 Mississippi community colleges. The college posted an impressive 69.7% student success rate—nearly nine percentage points above the state average of 61%, making Co-Lin the leader in the percentage of graduates statewide.
In academic honors, Gerson Martinez of Magee earned multiple accolades, including selection to the Co-Lin Hall of Fame, the title of Mr. Co-Lin, and a spot on the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa All-Mississippi Academic Team. Another standout, Mary Beny, a recent graduate of the Simpson County Center, was named a 2024 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar, an honor given to only 210 Phi Theta Kappa members nationwide.
Nearly 600 students graduated from Co-Lin during the 2024–2025 academic year, marking a notable increase in the number of graduates.
This year also marks the 20th anniversary of the Simpson County Center. A celebratory luncheon will be held on August 22 at 11 a.m., inviting the community to honor two decades of educational service and progress.
In a forward-looking initiative, Co-Lin and Magee High School jointly announced the creation of the Posey Educational Foundation Scholarship. This new scholarship provides full tuition to Co-Lin for Magee High School graduates who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA.
Adding to the excitement, the college is launching the Simpson County Collegiate Academy this fall. This program gives high school students the opportunity to earn an associate degree alongside their high school diploma. Interested students can contact 601-849-0124 or email registrationinfosimpson@colin.edu for more information.
And in athletics, the Co-Lin Lady Wolves Softball Team brought home national glory once again, capturing the 2025 NJCAA DII National Softball Championship—their second national title in just three years. The team also secured the MACCC Championship this season.
From academics to athletics, Co-Lin’s Simpson County Center continues to exemplify excellence and expand opportunities for students across the region.
