After six months of activity, the Simpson County Bicentennial Celebration hosts its Grand Finale on Thursday, July 4, beginning at 9 a.m., when the time capsule buried during the 1974 Sesquicentennial will be unearthed and its contents removed and distributed.
In addition, the day will include music at Alice Davis Park. Food vendor trucks will be on hand, and drawings for Christmas ornaments will be held for those who have purchased vouchers during the last several months.
The Bicentennial Executive Committee has made the decision not to bury the new time capsule at this event as the day’s activities will already be extensive. Tentatively they are looking at a date in the fall for the “burial.” More information will be made public as it becomes available.
