Magee police have arrested Jordan Jamal Brinson in connection with the killing of Daryious Collins, bringing an end to a two-day manhunt that had residents in the Goodwater community on high alert.
The incident began late Saturday night when officers responded to reports of a shooting on the northeast side of the city. One person—later identified as Collins—was found fatally wounded. As investigators worked the scene, the Magee Police Department issued an urgent alert to residents, warning that the suspected gunman was believed to be armed and dangerous and urging the public to lock their doors and report any suspicious activity.
Authorities quickly identified Brinson, described as 5’8” and approximately 185 to 200 pounds, as the individual wanted for questioning in the homicide. A search effort spanning multiple jurisdictions followed, with assistance from the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office and Jeff Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, law enforcement located Brinson hiding inside an abandoned house in Simpson County. He was taken into custody without incident.
Magee Police Chief Denis J. Borges expressed gratitude for the cooperative effort that led to the arrest, noting that agencies at the municipal, county, and state level worked together toward a single goal—public safety. Brinson has been booked into the custody of the Magee Police Department and is expected to face a murder charge in the death of Collins.
Officials emphasized that Brinson, like all individuals charged with a crime, is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to piece together the events leading up to the deadly shooting.
