As the City of Magee prepares for its municipal election, a total of four candidates have qualified to run for mayor, alongside a competitive field for the position of Alderman. The election is shaping up to be a highly contested one, with residents set to make key decisions about the future of their city leadership.
For the office of mayor, Dale Berry is seeking re-election as an independent, with Jim Snider, also running as an independent candidate. Additionally, Mark Grubbs and Joe Worrell will both run as Republicans for the office of Mayor.
In the race for Alderman, Sue Honea will run unopposed for the position of Alderman at Large, continuing her tenure on the board.
For Ward 1, Allyson Berch, Chris Craft, and Frank Duane Simmons will all seek office. All of whom will run as Republicans.
In Ward 2, incumbent Lawana Thompson will face a challenge from Beth Moore, a Republican candidate vying for the seat.
Ward 3 will see a contested race between Republican candidates Rachael Suzie Bourn, Slovakia Griffith, and Lane Steele, as well as independent candidate Sedrick Durr, all vying for the position.
Ward 4 will have a new alderman following the retirement of Patrick Brown from the board. Three independent candidates have qualified for the position: Cortez Chatman, Melinda Green, and Julian Harper.
The primary election will take place on April 1 for Republican candidates. The general election is scheduled for June 3 with voters across Magee deciding who will serve in key positions for the next term. Voter turnout will be crucial in determining the future leadership of the city.
Residents are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the candidates and their platforms ahead of Election Day. The Magee Courier will host a political forum in March giving candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves to the public.
In the City of Mendenhall only the incumbents qualified for office. The board comprised of Mayor Todd Booth, Alderwoman at Large Vickie Everett, Alderwoman Ward 1 Judy Lee, Alderman Ward 2 Robert Mangum, Alderwoman Ward 3 Janna Miller, and Alderman Ward 4 Arthur Walker will all be reelected unopposed.
