The Magee Board of Aldermen has hired a new zoning administrator/ code enforcement officer to replace former director Penny Aguirre.
Evan Jones of Jackson, Miss., will assume his duties on Tuesday, March 10. Jones is in the process of completing a master’s degree in public administration online from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
His previous experience includes nonprofit research and administration and most recently a stint with Alexander County, NC, Planning and Development Department. Both education and experience have been on local government, Jones says, due in large part to its close proximity to the residents it serves.
“I’m passionate about the opportunity to meet face to face with constituents and observe positive change in the community in real time,” he said. “I firmly believe that maintaining a constant dialogue with the public is key to good local governance. I am a consensus builder and I will rely upon constructive public feedback in order to be the best public servant that I can be. I strongly encourage anyone in the community with feedback or questions about the planning and zoning process to please reach out; my door at city hall is always open!”
Jones saw the position listing on the Mississippi Municipal League website. He and his wife will celebrate their first anniversary this month. Jones plans to commute from Jackson as the couple has family members in the area and they value time with extended family.
He added, “I believe that as Magee grows, I too will grow both as a person and as a public servant.”
