The Mendenhall Mayor and Board of Aldermen met on January 6 to address a range of city business, including zoning concerns, law enforcement matters, and city operations.
During the meeting, Chris May, a Magee resident, appeared before the board on behalf of Eddie Randall Johnson regarding property located at 202 West Bell Street. May raised concerns related to zoning and questioned the city’s decision to deny water service to the property. He asked whether the issue was “a matter of policy or privilege” and accused the board of unfairly impacting local residents. May concluded his remarks by requesting that water service be provided to the property. The board acknowledged the comments and stated they would take the matter under advisement.
In other business, the board approved the Mendenhall Police Department’s request to advertise an amnesty month scheduled for March 2026. During amnesty month, individuals will be allowed to pay outstanding fines without fear of arrest.
The board also declared several items as surplus property. These items will be auctioned by JJ Merchant for disposal. Additionally, all board minutes and financial documents were approved.
Because the Simpson County rubbish pit is nearing capacity, the board approved the rental of two dumpsters for city rubbish. The city plans to utilize the dumpsters until a new rubbish pit becomes available.
Following the approval of the remaining agenda items, the meeting was adjourned.
