Results are in for the Municipal Primary Election conducted on April 6.
The City of Mendenhall featured two contested races on the ballot. With only two candidates in each primary race, a primary runoff election will be unnecessray. Mayor Todd Booth, Alderwoman Ward 1 Judy Lee, Alderman Ward 2 Robert Mangum, and Alderman- at-Large Tim Gray all ran unopposed and will retain their offices.
Incumbent Alderwoman of Ward 3 Janna Miller faced Democratic challenger Kevin Jones Sr. in the Democratic primary. Jones received 23 votes compared to Miller’s 57 votes. Miller was the clear winner and will resume her position as alderwoman following the general election.
Incumbent Alderwoman of Ward 4 Sandra Weeks-Stein was challenged by Larry Purser in the Republican Primary. Stein received 49 votes and Larry Purser received 36 votes.
It was a tight margin of victory with only 13 votes separating the two. Stein won the Republican nomination and will face former alderman and Democratic candidate Arthur Walker in the general election.
General Election Day is Tuesday, June 8.
Voters who plan to participate in the upcoming municipal election must be registered to vote in the city at least 30 days priors to Election Day. May 10 is the deadline to register before the general election.
