Sunny skies and warm temperatures greeted a group of nearly 100 for an evening of prayer for Magee, A City on Its Knees, June 30, 2025. It was held in the parking lot adjacent to the Community House.
The service was born from two women, Shirley Herrington and Lisa Leavell who began walking the streets of Magee in May, praying for the city and her residents. This Monday night, several churches and denominations were represented by pastors along with lay members. Men and women lead participants reading Scripture and leading prayers.
Five specific prayer points were addressed: humility among Christians; schools, students, teachers; city officials, first responders; families, neighbors, churches; and, spiritual awakening. Scripture references included 2 Chronicles 7:14; Proverbs 22:16; Romans 13: 1-3; Jeremiah 29:7; and Romans 9.
The large crowd broke into smaller groups to pray for each area of concern. Bro. David Hays asked city officials and first responders to come forward so those present could lay hands on them during prayer. The new mayor and board of aldermen were in attendance, along with Police Chief Denis Borges and others.
At the close of the service everyone was asked to continue praying in the days ahead. Bro. Ryan Wade also stated there will be more prayer services in the coming months.
