Several events are scheduled around Simpson County for Halloween.
In Mendenhall on October 27, the annual Trunk or Treat will be hosted on Main Street. This will mark the final Friday Nights on Main gathering until the season begins next year. Several decorated cars along Main Street will offer treats. The event is sponsored by Johnny Ray Elzy. Trunk or Treat will begin at 7 p.m. and end at 9 p.m. The event is free to the public, and participants are encouraged to decorate their rides and stock up on treats. Entertainment will be provided by Vintage 601, which specializes in classic rock and country music.
The Mendenhall Public Library is again partnering with various businesses and organizations in the Mendenhall and Simpson County area to offer Halloween Candy Lane for the community's children. Children in the sixth grade and under are invited to come trick-or-treat on Tuesday, October 31, from 5-6:30 p.m. Trick-or treaters will be required to enter through the library doors and exit through the Community Center doors. They will be given a special treat bag to collect their goodies and will be allowed to go through the line only once. Children's hands will be stamped as they come through, and children must be present to trick-or-treat. Adults and teens will not be allowed to participate, and the library doors will be locked at 6:30 p.m. Any business, organization or individual who would like to participate and pass out treats to children may contact the Mendenhall Library at 601-847-2181.
The Vault restaurant in Magee will host their annual costume party on October 28.
Regularly scheduled trick or treating will also take place on Tuesday, October 31. In Mendenhall, house-to-house trick or treating will be from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. In Magee, house-to-house trick or treating will end at 10 p.m. The Magee Board of Aldermen approved blocking off part of Second Avenue in Magee for trick or treating from the stop sign on Fifth Street to Choctaw Street. Approximately 20 houses will participate in passing out candy to trick-or-treaters. Happy Halloween!
