While the weather forecast all week had given a high chance for rain Sunday, April 21, it gave way to clouds and then bright cool sunshine before the Historic Homes Tour and Tea along with the “Personalities of the Past” skits began at 1:30 p.m.
The Magee Community House was a near packed venue with only a few seats available for the first presentation of the history of Magee. Actors and actresses played the parts of prominent residents who helped build the town that many call home today. Among those featured were the Choctaws, the Mangums and Magees, Dr. Henry Boswell, Ms. Willie Ainsworth and Marvin Mathis. Each told of the part they played in the life of the town as Magee grew.
At the same time four homes and one church in downtown Magee participated in the Historic Home Tours. A steady stream of people flocked in and out of The Presbyterian Church on 2nd Avenue, SW; the homes of the Caughmans and Sue Honea; The Old Boarding House; and the McAlpin House, where visitors were treated to an extensive array of sweets, cheeses, tea and pink lemonade.
It was evident by the many cars on 2nd Avenue and at the Community House that the events were a big success!
